If MLB Trade Rumors are to be believed, Cliff Lee and Jayson Werth are set to join the New York Yankees. According to reports, a deal could be finalized by the end of the day. Reports added that Lee’s stint with Yankees is a reward for his fantabulous performance in recent times. It’s also being speculated that Yankees will release Javier Vasquez to the Philadelphia Phillies for right-fielder Jayson Werth.
The move has come like a surprise for many, as the reported deal hasn’t been the Yankee’s style of trading key prospects for star veteran players. It’s notable that after Brian Cashman assumed more authority and the Steinbrenner sons took over the baton from King George, things haven’t been same for Yankees.
It’s believed that once these deals turn out, the Yankees would be requiring more room against Tampa Bay Rays, which have once again gained momentum. Rays have so far clinched six victories in a row, eight in their last 10 outings.
Meanwhile, riding high on two-run single into right field in the ninth innings by Rodriguez, Yankees clinched their first lead, defeating the Seattle Mariners 3-1 at Safeco Field on July 8, 2010 in Seattle, Washington. Hundreds of Yankee fans erupted like a canon blast after A-Rod fought off Aardsma’s fastball and pushed it through the right side of the infield to score Derek Jeter(notes) and Nick Swisher(notes) with the deciding runs “We have confidence that we were going to come up with the big hit,” Rodriguez said. “But we also left a lot of guys on base. We’re just thinking of one opportunity to win the game.”
