YouTube Redesign Goes Live with Cleaner, Streamlined Look
The new Youtube interface went live yesterday. It has been two months since Youtube's video page redesign entered beta in January. The new streamlined Youtube interface went live yesterday.
Google's video-sharing site has reached this stage after over a year of planning. Their are two purposes of this youtube redesign. First is to give users a cleaner UI which is "more subdued, stripped down and simple than before," as per a Januaryblog post by Yahoo designer Julian Frumar and software engineer Igor Kofman. Second purpose is to make visitors stay on the site longer and make them watch more videos.
The new Youtube video page is designed to appeal to both new as well as power users.
You will notice that the additional information about the clip you watch is shown in one place below the video window.
The redesign also leads to better search integration. Now the "next up" video list on the right side is cleverer, as it considers how you reached at the site.
Also now you can do your search even while watching a video (multitasking anyone!). Video runs uninterrupted while search results show on the right side.
Now there is a new rating system in place of the old 5-star rating system. Now there are two options only "Like" and "Don't Like". if you click "Like" the video gets added to your favorite list.
Now the "subscribe" button is easy to spot above the video near the title.
So happy videos surfing for all you Youtube lovers!
