UFC 117 Fight Card: After indulging in a verbal spat with the fight camp of the UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva, the 185-pound top challenger Chael Sonnen has now started targeting Silva again and has launched his verbal tirade days before UFC 117 Chael Sonnen vs Anderson Silva title fight on August 7. In his latest rant against Silva, Sonnen also targets former challengers like Rich Franklin and Patrick Cote indirectly.
“I’m here because I beat up everybody who got in my way. I beat every champion there’s ever been except one and I’ve stuck my finger in his chest for four years and he wouldn’t fight me. He fought a one-legged Canadian, a math teacher from Ohio and a bunch of guys who weren’t even good enough to hold their spot in the company. His running is done, his 15 minutes of fame are up and I’m gonna bring it to an abrupt halt. Anderson Silva’s hurt a lot of people,” said Sonnen.
His verbal venom definitely proves that Sonnen knows very well how to insult the defending champion, but if he is really willing to tame “The Spider” then Sonnen needs to come with something extraordinary instead of just loose talks. We all know that Silva is a highly skilled fighter and is widely regarded by many as one of the most dangerous strikers in the sport of MMA.
Besides this, Silva is also a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under the Nogueira brothers. Sonnen will have to maintain the top position and make sure that he remain out of danger in order to defeat Silva. Sonnen must land strikes on the ground if he wants to claim the title and hand Silva his first loss in four years.
