Tylenol Recall 2010, Children Medicine Recall 2010 Is Being Investigated By FDA
Johnson & Johnson had on Friday recalled more than 40 common non prescription medicines for children and infants.
Some of the products that have been recalled include Tylenol, Motrin, Zyrtec etc. FDA spokesperson Elaine Bobo told Reuters that the recall can affect a minimum of 1500 product lots.
She also said that while the agency is still investigating the case recall but any decision to take any action is still premature.
A routine inspection of the company’s facility at Fort Washington, Pennyslvania led the agency to ask Johnson & Johnson to recall its products.
Bobo Said, "Our thought was because these over-the-counter products are so widely used and because it hit such vulnerable populations with infants and children, that we really needed to get the word out there to at least give consumers a heads' up before we had all the specifics,"
However, the stock prices of the company went up by 1.6 percent to $ 65.33 on Monday. Analysts are of the opinion that the recall of the prescription drugs is another dent to the image of the company which had a sales of $61.9 billion last year.
On the recall issue, Noble Financial Group analyst Jan Wald.said, "looks like it's hiding something or isn't fully disclosing ... I think that's where it can get hurt," Another analyst was of the opinion that depending on the response of the company there is a equal opportunity for a court enforced agreement between FDA and J&J.
Meanwhile production has been stopped at the Fort Washington plant where the check was conducted which led to the recall. Given the fact that FDA is facing a resource crunch they might just take the case to the next level where they enforce regulatory actions on the company.
J & J spokesperson Caroline Almeida said that halt in production might lead to shortfall in supply in the market for which the company has already started advising consumers to refer to their local pharmacist who will advise them on alternatives.
