Tony Awards 2010 Nominations Announced: Fela! and La Cage Earn Nine Each
The 64th Annual Tony Awards nominations have been announced today at The New York Public Library. Jeff Daniels and Lea Michele announced the nominations.
The new musical Fela! and the revival of La Cage aux Folles earned 11 nominations a piece. Memphis earned eight nominations, including Best Musical. The musical has been directed by by Joe DiPietro and David Bryan
Sarah Ruhl's In the Next Room is in the Best Play category with the Vibrator Play, Geoffrey Nauffts' Next Fall, John Logan's Red and Donald Margulies' Time Stands Still. Actress Jan Maxwell earned two nominations, one for Supporting Actress for her role in Play (Lend Me a Tenor) and Leading Actress in a Play (The Royal Family).
Andrew Lippa for The Addams Family, Adam Cork (music) and Lucy Prebble (lyrics) for Enron and David Bryan (music) and Joe DiPietro (lyrics) for Memphis were nominated in the Best Score section.
Veteran actress Rosemary Harris earned nomination for Best Featured Actress for her performance as acting-family matriarch Fanny Cavendish in the The Royal Family. This is Harris' ninth nomination. The award ceremony will be broadcast live on June 13 from Radio City Music Hall on CBS.
