Tim Clark Wins Players Championship
South African golfer Tim Clark won the Players Championship for his first PGA Tour victory yesterday.
Shortly after Clark emerged victorious, Robert Allenby said that he had a conversation with Clark in February, when Clark had lamented his inability to take home a PGA Tour trophy.
"He was telling me, 'I just can't win; I just can't win. I told him you've just got to be patient," recalled Allenby. Clark, however, did not remember having such conversation with Allenby. "I've probably had that with a bunch of guys," he said.
Clark turned the tide in his favour in a magical six-hole stretch, recording all five birdies of a five-under-par 67 Sunday to claim his first PGA Tour victory.
"This may just be what gets me started," said Clark, who walked home with $1.71-million s the winner’s prize.
Besides Clark, Davis Love III was the only other player to break 70 yesterday as winds affected the performances badly. "He looked like he was playing out there on a Tuesday. It didn't look like a Sunday Players Championship round, for sure. He didn't miss a shot," remarked Charley Hoffman, Clark's playing partner.
