Police sources said yesterday said the woman who was rescued by a homeless man during an assault on a Queens street last week may have known her attacker and that might be the reason why the woman has not reported the matter to the police.
Hugo Tale-Yax, 31, a homeless man from Guatemala, was killed after he tried to rescue the woman from a man on April 18 in Jamaica.
The video footage obtained by The Post shows the woman in a happy mood walking with a man. A few minutes later, the woman is shown walking alone and a man soon comes into the picture following her. Tale-Yax also enters into the frame at that time.
After the violent fight, in which Tale-Yax was stabbed, the man and woman ran in separate directions. An injured Tale-Yax lay bleeding on the road for nearly two hours, with as many as 20 people passing by him, but no one came to his rescue.
NYPD spokesman said that the man stabbed Tale-Yax several times when he tried to rescue the woman. Browne added that the homeless immigrant tried to pursue the man after getting stabbed but he collapsed. Police have launched a probe into the incident and are searching for the man and woman.
Seth Herman, the man who called 911 to help the homeless man said that he was appalled by the people's attitude towards the man. "I felt it wasn't my job to figure out if the person was drunk or actually hurt. I just think that's horrible, whether you're homeless or not," she said. "He's a human being; he needs help."
