IMAX Corporation, the operator of big- screen movie theaters, has finalised a pact to show as many as 20 films from Time Warner Inc.’s Warner Bros Studio, including upcoming "Harry Potter" movies and "The Hobbit” and “Batman 3.” Pictures unit to release as many as 20 giant-format films as well as conventional films through 2013.
This is the largest deal the specialty-screen cinema company has signed with any studio and ensures a long-term supply of films for its expanding network.
Producer Peter Jackson told the media that both scripts for the two-part adaption of Tolkien's classic novel are over. The delay is due to the fact that this movie as not received the greenlit from the studio and neither the cast and crew of the “Lord of the rings” can be approached, even though they are a part of the story.
"We're thrilled to join with IMAX in bringing global audiences new and exciting experiences through the 3-D IMAX format," said Veronika Kwan-Rubinek. WB's president of international distribution stated that, "We have a tremendously powerful slate of quality tentpole films, and as IMAX theaters continue to expand internationally, more and more audiences will have the opportunity to experience our films using this exciting format."
The media release states that the biggest is "Batman 3" and another return to the "Superman" franchise are both pegged as part of the deal. Even if no dates are given, but one can expect that those two will hit the screen after 2011.
Also in the list to release are Alfonso Cuaron-directed, Robert Downey Jr.-starring sci-fi flick "Gravity," the Tim Burton-directed TV series adaptation "Dark Shadows" and George Miller's "Mad Max" sequel "Fury Road." The other releases would include "Legends of the Guardian: The Owls of Ga'Hoole 3D" (September 24, 2010); "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" (November 19, 2010); "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II" (July 15, 2011); and "Happy Feet 2" (November 18, 2011). "The Hobbit" is the only film which is set to release after 2011.
