Tennessee Flooding Update: More Victims Feared As Floodwaters Recede
The receding water of the flooded Cumberland River must has come as a sign of relief for Tennessee residents but it has also increased fear that as the water level will go normal many more dead bodies will be found.
Tennessee was hit by deadly storms that caused flash floods putting the lives of several residents in danger. At present, the death toll is at 28 but it is likely that the number will increase once the floodwater will recede.
Rescuers and residents of the Music City's historic downtown know they'll find widespread property damage in the flooded area but are hoping for minimal human losses.
"Those in houses that have been flooded and some of those more remote areas, do we suspect we will find more people? Probably so," said Nashville Fire Chief Kim Lawson said. "We certainly hope that it's not a large number," he added.
Thousands of people fled from their houses to escape from the rising water but rescuers are afraid that many people did not get enough time to leave their home. The storms killed six people in Mississippi and four in Kentucky, while one person was killed in western Tennessee.
