Take Heart Taxpayers: IRS Open Houses at your Service

IRS is offering people with financial problems, help in paying their taxes. This is happening for the second year when Internal revenue Service has tried to reach out to taxpayers in trouble.

There will be about 1,000 open houses organized by IRS on Saturdays where taxpayers will be able to work on their tax payment problems with IRS officials.

Commissioner Douglas Shulman said, "Our goal is for people to walk out clean and by clean, I mean you walk out knowing what you owe, or if you need a settlement offer, it's on the table. If you are in appeal, that is over. If you are trying to get an installment plan, you are done. This, frankly, is good for taxpayers and good for us. We want to wrap these things up and move on."

Shulman also said, "You need to be continually looking at ways to serve people. This effort continues my theme that we have to walk in taxpayer shoes. There are still a lot of people who are unemployed facing hardship."

The open houses begin on March 27. People can check exact dates, times and places on IRS website irs.gov.

The agency offered help last year too when it told its employees dealing with taxpayers that they have the authority to be lenient with people in financial trouble. There were efforts like a loosening aggressive collecting efforts, allow people to skip a payment or two or reduce their monthly payments etc.

The effort is definitely going to raise people's trust in IRS and reduce their fears.
