Study: Contraceptive Pills Likely To Lower Female sex Drive
Medical experts are concerned that birth-control pills are decreasing the sex drive in the women.
In the 1960s, when the pill was introduced for the first time, everyone was concerned that it would turn women into sex fiends and affect the marriages in negative manner.
But in recent decades, doctors are worried that the pills actually lower women's libido, and it can also lead to sexual dysfunction in some cases.
A new study published this week in the Journal of Sexual Medicine also says the same thing. The study was conducted on 1,000 female medical students in Germany, using questionnaires. Researchers found that women who used an oral contraceptives had lesser sexual desire than a woman who used condoms, or no contraception at all.
"To our knowledge, this is the largest study in which the effect of hormonal contraception on sexual function has been evaluated. We had a large and homogenous group and our results lead us to believe that hormones may indeed influence sexual function," says Alfred Mueck, who is one of the study's authors.
