Following a new lead in the Stacy Peterson’s mysterious disappearance, Illinois authorities have renewed their search operation, digging up a muddy area east of Peoria, Ill. According to media reports, investigators used sniffer dogs to detect what they called “human remains”.
Peterson had vanished in October 2007 soon after contacting a divorce attorney about ending her marriage. Her disappearance case drew media attention after her husband Drew Peterson, a 56-year-old former police official, was charged with her disappearance and murder of his previous wife. "There is a search underway for human remains, however no human remains have been located at this point," Peoria County Coroner Johanna Ingersoll told the newspaper.
While investigators began digging up the muddy area, Peterson’s counsel, Joel Brodsky described the entire ‘renewed search operation’ as “patently ridiculous”. Bordsky alleged that Stacy had run away with another man and that his client was innocent. "The current report about Stacy Peterson is just another in a long line of baseless allegations against Drew Peterson," Brodsky said in a statement. "
Ever since Stacy disappeared there have been numerous rumors, gossip and reports about Drew Peterson. The one thing all of these stories have in common is that they always prove to be false and there are never any facts or evidence to back them up," he added.
The renewed search operation comes days ahead the trial of Peterson, who is accused of killing his third wife Kathleen Savio. Stacy was his fourth wife. Reports claimed that the authorities got the lead from inmate who had spoken with Drew Peterson during the detention.
