Sony PS3 Update: PS3 Linux Support To Be Removed
This week, there is a firmware update being issued by Sony for the PlayStation 3 (PS 3), to remove support for Linux OS on the console for security reasons.
So on April 1st when the update gets effective, PS3 firmware will get to 3.21.
Sony's Patrick Seybold said on the PlayStation blog, "(It's) due to security concerns ... (and) will help ensure that PS3 owners will continue to have access to the broad range of gaming and entertainment content from SCE and its content partners on a more secure system."
The announcement is being related to the recent PS3 hack which opened the system to piracy hence leading to the removal of Linux support.
Before now the feature has not been there in the PlayStation 3 Slim.
It has been reported that very small number of people actively use Linux on a PS3 but the consumers have responded negatively still to the announcement.
The update is taking away a functionality not adding anything.
