Sony has launched new cameras in the point and shoot segment with features of a pro within a small body. The models are scheduled to be available in July.
There are interchangeable lenses in the new models Alpha NEX – 5 and NEX – 3. The former is priced at $650 and the latter at $550.
Sony has claimed that the new models that are scheduled to be released in July are the “world’s smallest and lightest”. The size and feel of the new models are similar to that of the Olympus and Panasonic. The image sensors are however are not smaller than SLRs. The models have APS-C size sensors which will provide better quality images.
There are a handful of lenses that are available for the cameras starting from a 16mm f 2.8 to 18mm – 55mm f3.5-f5 wide-to medium telephoto and 18mm-200mm f 3.5-f 6.3 ($800) larger zoom lens.
A point to check would be the shooting of high definition video with these cameras. As per Sony the NEX cameras can adjust focus while shooting video. Some SLRs also do not have these features.
