Tokyo: On Friday, a company executive from Sharp Corp. said at a press conference that they will start producing small size, three-dimensional liquid crystal displays by September which won't require the viewer to use special glasses, positive that ultimately all potable digital devices will be 3D capable.
Yoshisuke Hasegawa, executive managing officer who oversees LCD operations said, "Just like black and white TVs turned color, all displays will eventually be 3D [capable],"
He further added that some electronics makers, including mobile phone makers have asked Sharp to supply small 3D displays.
He said that the technology will be equally available to use for large 3D televisions but his company does not plan to release 3D TVs as yet.
In the next fiscal year, about half of Sharp's displays for mobile devices will be 3D.
The newly developed Sharp 3D display is 3.4 inches in size and is touch-screen enabled. Soon it will be available for cellphones, smartphones and gaming devices.
There was no comment from Sharp's executive about the possible supply of displays to Nintendo Co.'s new portable 3D gaming device named Nintendo 3DS which was announced last week.
