Angelina Jolie's latest action thriller "Salt" is well on course of becoming a hit as the spy caper from director Philip Noyce grossed estimated $12 million on its release day. It is expected that the film would earn around $35 million by the end of this week. Salt is an out and out thriller and Jolie has excelled in her role as Evelyn Salt, a CIA agent who is on the run from the members of her own agency.
"The Story "It's ludicrous, 'Salt' is, with its absurd twists and trite dialogue and impossible antics and lack of real-world depth and connectedness. But it's also fun, with its heinie-kicking heroine, its paranoid nesting-egg plot, its sleek pace and fuzzy contours and sheer, unapologetic urge to thrill. ... Kurt Wimmer's screenplay isn't a document of human interaction so much as a series of stage instructions and traffic signals, its characters little more than game pieces. The thing is so shallow that it's nearly convex, but it's not overlong, blessedly, and its ambitions are plausibly pedestrian," Shawn Levy wrote about the film in his review for The Oregonian
But the film is still no match for Leonardo Di Caprio-starrer Inception. Christopher Nolan’s dreamy heist film made an additional $13 million on Friday and it is likely that it would end the week with a good earning of around $40 million. The movie had already crossed the $100 million mark on Thursday. Inception is expected to earn more than $140 by weekend’s end. The success of Inception is remarkable because it a though-provoking film and some critics were saying that it will fail to achieve commercial success.
