Promoted Tweets:Twitter Gets Ready to Earn Revenue From Advertisements

Twitter Inc – a four year old company, is venturing into a new project termed ‘Promoted Tweets’ to bring advertisements to users.

The ads will reach out to 2% to 10% users as a San Francisco promotion campaign. Initially 10 advertisers would be lined up with major companies like Virgin America, Best Buy and Starbucks.

This is the first time that microblogging would be used for business purposes. The ads will be displayed on top of the results of every search operation conducted on Twitter. Eventually they may be trailed in every post the users get to see on the site.

Twitter has already earned huge capital worth $1 billion from its tens of millions of users worldwide. It has only recently seen revenue flowing in from its tweets forked out by companies like Google and Microsoft Corp. But advertising executives still remain doubtful about the success of this model. Evan Williams, Twitter’s Chief executive and Biz Stone its co-founder too did not seem confident as they think there are chances to irritate users.

But then the work is in progress and Twitter is planning to charge advertisers on the basis of per thousand impressions. Later they will decide a more complex model based on user’s interaction with messages. This new feature is expected to attract business whereby corporates can convey their deals and updates to users of Twitter.
