Police Officer Uses Taser On Fan During Phillies Game For Entering Field
A Philadelphia police officer used his Taser gun to subdue a fan running on the field at Citizens Bank Park.
The police has used the taser gun during a match for the first time in Phillies history.
A total of 44,817 fans were present in the stadium when a teenager wearing a black baseball cap, red T-shirt and khaki shorts, entered the ground during the eighth inning against the St. Louis Cardinals.
"This is the first time that a Taser gun has been used by Philadelphia police to apprehend a field jumper," Phillies spokeswoman Bonnie Clark said in a statement. She further added, "The Police Department is investigating this matter and The Phillies are discussing with them whether in future situations this is an appropriate use of force under these circumstances. That decision will be made public."
As police officer and security personnel rushed to the field to catch the man, he started running away from them. Later, the officer hit the man with the taser to subdue the fan. The man fell on the ground and was then taken off the field.
Police spokesman Lt. Frank Vanore said that the officer "utilized his Taser," when a fan ran onto the field. Running on the field is illegal under the law but police normally wrestle such fans to the ground to control them.
