Police Examination of Times Square Camera Footage Sheds More Light On Failed Car Bombing
The authorities claimed to have many strong leads in the investigation of the failed car bombing of New York's Times Square and denied the involvement of al-Qaida.
After examining the footage at police laboratories Raymond Kelly, the city police chief pointed out a white male in the scene of about 40 years of age, in a strange manner crossing the area and suspected him to be the person involved.
The bomb was discovered after a vendor noticed the smoke coming out of a parked car and without any delay the area was evacuated on Saturday evening. The city police chief said that if the bomb would have exploded it would have caused a lot of damage.
Though Kelly dismissed the involvement of the Pakistani Taliban but the video tapes released on Sunday by the US based agency that monitors the activities of Taliban media, showed the leader of Pakistani Taliban Hakimullah Mehsud talking about US attacks .The video showed an unidentified man who according to the agency was Mehsud took full responsibility of the attacks in USA.
It was presumed that Mehsud was not alive and had been killed in a drone strike on January 14 but last week Pakistani intelligence suggested he might have survived the attack and is still alive.
In another video tape released by another monitoring agency a person who appeared to be Mehsud, in his speech said that he would show the success of Fedayeen or the suicide bombers to the muslim community. But these are not the ones who are involved in New York’s recent failed car bombing.
