Pakistan Rocked By Blasts Near US Consulate, Peshawar
Pakistani city of Peshawar has been rocked by a series of explosions near the US consulate.
According to US officials, the US consulate, Peshawar was the apparent target of the attack. Many buildings around were damaged and smoke was everywhere. After the blasts, long gun battle followed.
There has been no information on the number of dead or injured people.
Just hours before there was a suspected suicide attack at a political rally in the town of Timergara, in Lower Dir district, killing at least 38 people.
The US consulate bombing happened near Shama Square which a main crossroads at the northern end of Peshawar's cantonment are, near the US consulate.
The are also houses some army barracks and Army's Military Intelligence offices nearby.
An eyewitness Siraj Afridi told Reuters news agency, "I saw attackers in two vehicles. Some of them carried rocket-propelled grenades. They first opened fire at security personnel at the post near the consulate and then blasts went off."
