Daytime television queen Oprah Winfrey is turning to night television with "Oprah's Next Chapter," which will air on the new Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). The timings and frequency of the show is not announced yet.
At a presentation Thursday with the Discovery Channel, Oprah said that having a network of her own "has been a dream I've been carrying around for years,"
"For the past 24 years, my life's work has been to create television that changed the way people see themselves. ... There's been no greater joy than to influence people in a really good way."
The Discovery Channel is her partner in the new venture. The new show will possibly begin only after Oprah finishing her daytime show in September 2011 but OWN will start Jan. 1.
The other programs on the network will be a Mark Burnett competition show, a Shania Twain "reality" show, a talk show hosted by Oprah's best friend, Gayle King, and a "master class" that will present highly successful people like Condoleezza Rice, will.i.am and Jay-Z.
OWN will replace the Discovery Health network, which is seen in about 70 million homes but the ratings are low.
