It seems that finally the nation has to awaken from its slumber. And, the initiative to do that has been taken by the First Lady herself. Yes, in her anti-obesity campaign First Lady Michelle Obama has urged the manufacturers of fast food and other junk food to at least maintain the health quotient. She also appealed to parents to not allow their children have a great amount of fast food.
"I'm here today to urge all of you to move faster and to go farther, because the truth is we don't have a moment to waste -- because a baby born today could be less than a decade away from showing the first signs of high cholesterol, high blood pressure, Type II diabetes, if he or she is obese as a child," Mrs. Obama said.
Delivering her speech to the Grocery Manufacturers Association which is actually a group of 300 food, beverage and consumer makers, she urged people to root out obesity. She also added that even if child obesity is a persistent problem but she is determined to eradicate it from the country so that United States becomes a health freak country.
The first lady hopes that to make people educated on the whole issue the government doesn’t have to take stern measures such as taxes on junk foods. She has found GMA as its principle backer for the “Let’s Move” campaign.
"We need you not just to tweak around the edges, but to entirely rethink the products that you're offering, the information that you provide about these products, and how you market those products to our children," Mrs. Obama said. She added that products should have less fat, salt and sugar and more nutrients.
“And it doesn't mean decreasing problematic ingredients with small amounts of beneficial ones, Adding a little bit of Vitamin C to a product loaded with sugar doesn't suddenly make these products good for our kids,'' she countered.
The Grocery Manufacturers Association is pretty much in touch with Mrs. Obama and wants to work alongside her as both want less intervention of the White House.
