All the fans expecting a Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. face-off to come true are in for a disappointment. The proposed fight between the two is apparently not happening this year as the Mayweather camp did not respond to Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum's, midnight deadline to agree to the November 13 clash. "Floyd for whatever reason, and I'm sure he's got some valid reason, did not want to commit," said Arum, Pacquiao's promoter, in a press conference.
However, Arum did not speak to Mayweather directly but through a mediator. In any case, Pacquiao will fight in November regardless of who is his opponent. According to the reports, it could be either Miguel Cotto or Antonio Margarito who will take on the current welterweight champion.
The current developments over the proposed face-off between the two fighters follow months of attempts of reconciliation between the two parties. Earlier, Mayweather has demanded random blood tests within 30 days before the proposed fight date, but Pacquiao refused. However, Arum said that this obstacle was crossed. "I'm not going to go into specifics, but I think that issue was resolved," Arum said in regards to blood testing. "Not as clear cut as (a two-week window prior to the fight), but I believe it was resolved."
Earlier, due to unresolved differences, the proposed Pacquiao vs Mayweather face-off didn’t take off and they fought different opponents in the ring. Pacquiao (51-3-2) handed Joshua Clottey in a unanimous decision in March, while Mayweather (41-0) did the same to Shane Mosley two months later.
