Neck Muscle For Lip Augmentation: Research

Do you know implants of muscle and connective tissue from your neck can help augment your lips? A new study has revealed this amazing fact.

When almost anyone looking for enhancing their lips would get it done by surgical implantation of body parts, such as autologen, fat, collagen, into their lips, Naples researchers have come up with a new theory that proposes using muscle from the neck instead of the aforementioned body parts for enhancing thin and disfigured lips. They claim 25 people have shown good results.

According to the team of researchers, whose findings have been published in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery, the surgery helps the lips look fuller and less puckered. Lips being a sexual symbol have always been the center of attraction. Women consider lip augmentation a part of their face uplift and have been following this practice of lip augmentation since ancient times, when plant dyes and colored clays were  used to serve the purpose.

This practice followed unless collagen injections became popular in the cosmetic surgery market. Now this new finding, using the sternocleidomastoid muscle segments in the neck, promises a better appearance for two years.

According to Dr Agarwal, "Our patients have been thrilled with the natural feel and appearance, without the need for an artificial filler or implant." The surgery, according to the researchers, is simple and the recovery quick, with no or less complications.

According to cosmetic surgeon Douglas McGeorge, who was a president of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons: "There are lots of ways to increase the volume of the lips. This is another way. It's not necessarily any better, but it may give a more permanent result. However, further augmentations may be required. And as with any procedure, things can go wrong, although this is rare. Also, if the patient was not already going for a facelift they should be made aware that they would be left with a scar behind the hairline from the surgery.”
