The Washington Nationals defeated New York Mets 3-2 yesterday to claim their third straight win.

With this win, Nationals moved to the second place in the National League East. Right-hander Luis Atilano struck a career-high five batters and allowed five hits.

Atilano was well supported by Adam Kennedy and Ryan Zimmerman in the third inning, when he hit back-to-back home runs off John Maine.

In another match of the day, the Los Angeles Angels defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4 in extras.

Brian Fuentes gave up a solo homer to Willy Aybar and a two-run double to Evan Longoria to blow a 4-1 lead, which was provided by Joel Pineiro’s 6 1/3 scoreless innings.
