Motorola Gets Back At Apple With New Droid X Ad Mocking iPhone 4

28 July, 2010 A+  A-

What do you do when someone mocks you? You mock them in return. That’s what Motorola and Apple are doing with each other. Motorola and Verizon Wireless started the story when in the promotion of Droid X, they took out a full-page ad in the New York Times in late June mocking  iPhone 4 antenna issues.

Last week, Apple posted a video where it showed Droid X losing signal strength when the device is held in the hand. Motorola responded by another full-page ad in the New York Times where it made barb at iPhone 4, which is being offered free bumpers to resolve the antenna issues.

In the current ad, the headline reads, "No Jacket Required" pointing at the iPhone 4 with a wrapped bumper. But, there’s more to the ad. "At Motorola, we believe a customer shouldn't have to dress up their phone for it to work properly. That's why the Droid X comes with a dual antenna design. The kind that allows you to hold the phone any way you like to make crystal clear calls without a bulky phone jacket. For us it's just one of those things that comes as a given when you've been making mobile phones for over 30 years," the ad reads.

The current ad is a reply from Motorola for Apple showing a video showing Droid X losing signal strength. Apple has said in its "Antennagate" press conference that all smartphones face reception problem. The company even showed showed how phones from RIM, HTC, Nokia, Samsung, and Motorola lose signal.

Earlier, in promotion of the Droid X, Verizon and Motorola took out an ad that mocked iPhone 4’s antenna issues. The ad reads, "Most importantly, [the Droid X] comes with a double antenna design. The kind that allows you to hold the phone any way you like and use it just about anywhere to make crystal clear calls."

So, are we expecting another response from Apple?
