In a tragic head-on collision between a church van and a tractor-trailer in Kentucky, 11 people have died on Friday as reported by NBC.

The crash occurred at around 5:17 a.m. central time on I-65 near Cave City, north of Bowling Green on the northbound lane.

The driver of the truck was among the dead along with many passengers of the van says NBC.

NBC also informs quoting a department of transportation official that a southbound semi-truck crossed the median and crashed head-on into an 18-passenger van. It was also reported that at least one of the vehicles burst into flames.

Route I-65 had been closed in both directions at the Cave City exit and it could remain closed for up to eight hours says NBC. Detours were available.

State troopers and police from Elizabethtown and Bowling Green were helping at the scene of the accident.
