J. B. Holmes, Robert Allenby Take Lead At Players Championship
World’s top golfer Tiger Woods left his bad show at Quail Hollow behind, while J.B. Holmes and Robert Allenby emerged leaders in the Players Championship yesterday.
Holmes and Allenby each shot 66 in the opening round.
"You see a lot of good scores, but I guarantee you the leader at the end of the week is not going to be 24 under,". "It's not going to happen," said Bill Haas, one of 10 players at 4-under 68.
Tiger Woods looked in good touch at the TPC Sawgrass as he ground out a 2-under-par 70. "I only made three birdies. I had myself a few chances in there to make some putts, make some birdies, and didn't really do it," said the ace golfer, who had missed the cut for only the sixth time in his career at the Quail Hollow Championship last week.
Masters champion Phil Mickelson equaled Woods’ score. "Two under is not what I wanted. But there is a round in the mid 60s. If I can shoot that tomorrow, I'll get right back in it," noted Mickelson.
Holmes played bogey-free for his 66, although he came near to bogey at No. 10. "It was a fun day, one of those rounds where everything was going pretty good. It's kind of one of those rounds where it's not easy, but it felt pretty easy," Holmes said.
