Even as the government begins its efforts to implement the new health care law, the country’s major insurers are now coming with affordable plans, inclusive of reduced premiums along with limited choice of doctors or hospitals. The new plans are currently under trial in various places such as San Diego, New York and Chicago. Analysts believe that the new plans would appeal to the small business organizations that intend to give their employees a cheaper health plans. Analysts however raise concerns over the escalating cost average.
According to initial reports, a large number of employees have also showed interest in the plans. The insurers and consultants are hoping that businesses irrespective of their sizes would adopt the new plans in an endeavor to cut costs. The tradeoff, they add, is that more the people would be asked to shell out more money in case they choose doctors outside the given network. The plans however may surprise many who remember the assurances from President Obama and other officials that at the end of the day, consumers would be given a wide gamut of health-care choices. It’s notable that the companies may succeed in slashing the premiums by about 15% by introducing more limited plans. “What we’re seeing is a definite uptick in interest because, quite frankly, affordability is the most pressing agenda item,” said Dr. Sam Ho, the chief medical officer for UnitedHealth’s health-care plans.
Meanwhile, most of the insurers are hoping that the new plans would shot to the fame with a large number of employees and small businesses showing interest. They are likely to purchase coverage in the insurance exchanges, or marketplaces, which have been obligated under the new health law. Tens of millions of people would purchase coverage through those exchanges, it’s expected. This will create a vast pool of new customers, inclusive of millions of those how have been previously uninsured.
