Heathrow Flights Disrupted by British Airways Strike
The continuing cabin crew strike of British Airways is making life difficult not only for the commuters but also for the Airport authorities.
The figures are somewhat like this, 40% of long-haul and 70% of short-haul British Airways flights were cancelled from Terminal 5 of the Heathrow Airport due to the cabin crew strike. As part of the contingency plans, some flights are being carried on by other companies. However, according to the airline, the strike has made no difference to the passengers.
A protest rally was organized by the Unite union, which stated that more than 80 planes were disrupted due to the BA strike.
Meanwhile, BA is planning to operate long-haul flights to and from Gatwick other than operating half of its short-haul flights very shortly. All flights to and from London City Airport are expected to be on schedule.
A BA statement said: "We aim to fly as many customers as we can this weekend.
"At both Heathrow and Gatwick we have got off to a good start and London City is operating as normal.
"Cabin crews are reporting as normal at Gatwick and the numbers reporting at Heathrow are above the levels we need to operate our published schedule."
But, the Unite had already shown its massive strength stating that its 12,000 members were in support of the three-day walkout. Picket lines were showcased at the Heathrow airport, and Unite made sure that no buses cross the picket lines.
Meanwhile, contrary to all this passengers at Terminal Five expressed that they didn’t suffer any disruption.
