Google has acquired Bump Technologies Inc., the company which is well-known as the creators of BumpTop--a freeware application that transforms one's generic, two-dimensional desktop into a walled, three-dimensional, navigable display.
The software also works with multi-touch gesturing, provided the user has required technology to support it.
The news of the acquisition is still not made official by Google, but according to TechCrunch, a recently deleted Twitter message by a Canadian venture capitalist had revealed the news of the buyout. On the other hand, BumpTop has also redesigned its entire website and has made it of just one page that references, "An important BumpTop Announcement."
"More than three years ago, we set out to completely change the way people use their desktops. We're very grateful for all your support over that time -- not just financially but also through all the encouraging messages from people who found BumpTop inspiring, useful, and just downright fun," reads the message from "The Bumps."
"Today, we have a big announcement to make: we're going to be taking BumpTop in an exciting new direction, which means that BumpTop (for both Windows and Mac) will no longer be available for sale. Additionally, no updates to the products are planned," added the statement.
But the message was later edited and now it reads, "Today, we have a big announcement to make: we're excited to announce that we've been acquired by Google!"
Earlier, Mark McQueen, President and CEO of Canada's Wellington Financial LP had written on Twitter that Bump might agree to Google offer because the company had just voluntarily removed itself from Microsoft's list of BizSpark partners. "Given the arm wrestling going on between Apple and Google over who will have the sweetest user experience, Bumptop's cool desktop and underlying technology are a natural piece of Google's user interface puzzle as they prepare to take on the current kings of all consumer electronics. The ones down the street in Cupertino," writes McQueen.
