GM Comes Up With New Electric Concept Car: EN-V
Ever wondered about sitting in a car that looks like a vacuum cleaner on two wheels to navigate through the road traffic? You don’t have to wonder any more once you see the new GM Concept Cars.
General Motors Corp. has come up with a Segway, its concept of a future car, dubbed Electric Networked-Vehicle or EN-V, which can accommodate two persons at a time.
GM goes as far as thinking that the driving future lies in two-wheeled, two-seater electric cars, which can automatically or manually steer its way through traffic while connecting its occupants to their favorite social networking sites.
The EN-V was showcased in Shanghai yesterday and is expected to populate city streets by 2030. You can experience traveling in the EN-V at 25 miles per hour.
The EN-V uses Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, which makes navigating through the traffic easy, as it communicates with different vehicles to find the least congested routes.
In a statement, Kevin Wale, president of the GM China Group, revealed "EN-V reinvents the automobile by creating a new vehicle DNA through the convergence of electrification and connectivity. It provides an ideal solution for urban mobility that enables future driving to be free from petroleum and emissions, free from congestion and accidents, and more fun and fashionable than ever before."
According to GM, the EV-N claims to be more energy efficient, safer, easier to drive and navigate through crowded streets. It is propelled by electric motors powered by lithium-ion battery, which is installed in its wheels. The battery can be recharged from any normal electric outlet in walls.
The EN-V is five-foot long, weighs about 1,100 pounds, much lesser than an average car.
What’s more, it can fit in at any of the traditional parking spaces.
