Former WCW and WWE Wrestler Chris Kanyon Dead: Believed to be Suicide
Former WCW and WWE Wrestler Chris Kanyon (Chris Klucsaritis) also known as Mortis, is dead at 40 because of an apparent overdose of pills.
He was found dead in his apartment in Queens, NY, Friday night. His death is being called a suicide. The wrestler himself had admitted to a sleeping pill overdose in 2003 as well as to the fact that he suffered from bipolar disorder and struggled with suicidal thoughts in the past.
Chris had been into wrestling from early childhood but became known in 1997 as Mortis, which was a take on "Mortal Kombat" video games characters.
But by 1998, Mortis disappeared and Chris Kanyon appeared as party of Raven's flock. His catch phrase used to be, "Whose Better Then Kanyon?”
His career took a beating because of injuries during 2001 and then again in 2002 and finally was released from Smackdown in 2004.
He again appeared at TNA's 2005 Turning Point pay per view in a loss to Raven.
At a 2006 Blood, Sweat and Ears show in Ontario, Kanyon claimed her was fired from WWE for being homosexual.
Chris Klucsarits told Bo Shell of Atlanta's Southern Voice Magazine in 2006, "I knew being in Midtown and meeting so many gay people would be good, and I know it’s going to be a great journey in my personal and professional life,”
“My biggest regret is that I never listened and understood the words to the Aerosmith song ‘Amazing’… ‘life is a journey not a destination…’ and the journey is going to be so cool, however long it is, and it’s going to be great.”
His ultimate goal to return as a gay wrestler openly, sadly could not be achieved.
