The world’s largest social networking site Facebook had another string of privacy-related incidents yesterday when the site reportedly exposed users' private chats and friend requests to their friends due to some technical snag.
Senators have asked Facebook to resolve the privacy issue by introducing simpler privacy settings.
According to tech blog TechCrunch, Facebook fixed the lapse by yesterday afternoon. But, yesterday’s lapse came just days after some previous facebook privacy missteps. The site has introduced some changes recently leading to new facebook privacy settings. Now the site posts certain information publicly, like users' interests, which was in the private domain before.
“For a limited period of time, a bug permitted some users’ chat messages and pending friend requests to be made visible to their friends. Our engineers promptly diagnosed it and temporarily disabled the chat function. We also pushed out a fix. Chat will be turned back on across the site shortly,” said Facebook in a statement.
