Delta Jet Flight Diverted To Maine Due To Disruptive Passenger
A Delta Airlines flight coming from Paris to Atlanta made an unscheduled landing in Maine today after a passenger started behaving erratically, claiming that the plane is in danger from bomb.
"Flight 273, en route from Paris to Atlanta, is diverting to Bangor, Maine as a result of a disruptive passenger," Delta said in a statement.
The passenger, who is a US citizen, has been detained by the Federal air marshals and officials of the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) are currently interrogating the man. "The TSA is monitoring an incident that occurred on board Delta flight 273 from Paris Charles de Gaulle International Airport (CDG) to Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) after Federal Air Marshals responded to a passenger causing a disturbance on board the aircraft," the TSA posted a message on its website. The man has been identified as Derek Stansberry.
The flight was diverted to Bangor International Airport in Maine as a precautionary measure and it landed safely at approximately 3:30 pm EDT .
Stansberry's father Richard Stansberry is perplexed after hearing the news that his son has been detained for disruptive behavior. Derek is a retired Air Force intelligence specialist. Air Force spokeswoman Lt. Col. Linda Pepin said that Derek was on active duty from June 2005 to 2009.
