Dell today released its first smartphone named the Dell Aero for American customers. The Dell Aero runs Google's Android OS. It sports 3G, and Wi-Fi. The smartphones comes loaded with a 5 megapixel camera. The Aero has a tablet shape. It boasts of a 3.5-inch, 360 x 640 (nHD) pixel touchscreen. The phone weighs just 3.7 ounces and it one of the lightest Android-powered device available in the market.
Dell Aero will use AT&T’s network. The smartphones has an alternate user interface created by Dell and it comes loaded with the standard suite of software, including Gmail, Google Maps, Google Search, YouTube, Google Talk and the Android Market.
Then Dell Aero also has a range of social-networking software, like Facebook. The photos clicked from the Dell Aero can be uploaded directly to different social networking sites like Facebook Flickr, Picasa and TwitPic. The movies recorded on Aero can be sent to YouTube.
The Aero also has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a GPS receiver. The device comes loaded with a microSD memory card slot, with a 2 GB card pre-installed. The device is priced at $100 with an AT&T contract, or $300 without. Interested customers can place their order on Dell's website now.
Notably, Dell was once an important player in the PDA market and it was a well-known brand offering devices running Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system. But Dell decided to stop offering its Axim Line when smartphones started getting popular across the globe. But it seems that the company has now decided to return to the PDA market once again.
