It seems that 'Dancing With the Stars' season 10 has been lapped up well by the audiences as the dance-based reality show is slowly getting more popular and experts said that it might become a threat for the Fox's " American Idol," season 9 as America's most-watched show.
For three weeks this month, DWTS 2010 drew more viewers than American Idol 2010 on Monday.
Experts maintained that the Fox's executives might be worried over the idea of a ABC's show dislodging their show from the top slot. However, Fox can take solace in the fact that "Idol," still draws a much younger audience than the DWTS, according to the Nielsen Co.. Besides this, idol will easily beat "DWTS" in popularity among viewers ages 18 to 49, added Neilsen Co.
"This is like asking me to compare AARP magazine with Tiger Beat," We don't take any of this seriously," said Mike Darnell, Fox's reality guru and the network's point person overseeing "Idol," in an interview to LA Times.
ABC is currently ranked fourth among young adults, with "DWTS" emerging as their most popular show, averaging 22.4 million total viewers. Darnell admitted that ABC has selected right contestants for DWTS. "They cast it well. I'll give them credit for that," added Darnell.
