Cannes Film Festival Opens Today, Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett Set To Walk Red Carpet
The stars from across the globe would walk the red carpet this week at the French Riviera as the 63rd Cannes Film Festival opens tonight.
The run up to the festival has been marred by gloomy weather and the ash cloud.
Oscar winner Russell Crowe and Hollywood superstar Cate Blanchett are set to walk the red carpet today for the world premiere of their upcoming film Robin Hood. Other celebrities expected to register their presence at the 12-day festival include Sean Penn, Naomi Watts, Shia LaBeouf, Carey Mulligan, Michael Douglas, Kate Beckinsale and Javier Bardem.
But organizers are apprehensive that bad weather might disturb the travel plans of some of the stars. The volcanic ash cloud led to the closure of the Nice airport last weekend.
"Don't worry, we're ready. You can't even tell we had a storm," a rep for the Cannes mayor's office tells People magazine.
Rockstar Mick Jagger is also expected to attend the festival for the premiere of a documentary about Exile on Main Street. The documentary has been made by the Rolling Stones, while they were living in a mansion east of Cannes.
