CFDA To Honor Alexander McQueen Posthumously
Late British designer Alexander McQueen will posthumously receive the special board of directors award, according to an announcement by the fashion industry.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) has chosen late fashion designer Alexander McQueen for the special board of directors award as a mark of tribute to the late British fashion designer, who committed suicide last month in London. The awards also known as the Oscars of the fashion industry will be given at the annual celebrity-studded show in New York on 7 June.
While Michael Kors has been chosen for the Lifetime Achievement Award, model turned entrepreneur Iman has been named the fashion Icon. In the womenswear category, Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs, and Alexander Wang are the nominees. The nominees for the menswear category are Tom Ford, Michael Bastian, and Rag & Bone’s David Neville and Marcus Wainwright.
In the accessories category, Alexis Bittar, Marc Jacobs, and Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez will fight it out.
The nominees for the emerging talent are Joseph Altuzarra, Prabal Gurung, and Jason Wu. Austrian crystal company Swarovski is the sponsor of this award, which will sponsor the winner of this category. Talking about his nomination, Jason said: “The CFDA really is the pinnacle of the industry, and this is such an honor.”
