Security Exploits are exposed throughout the year, but no seven days are so productive in garnering details of exact vulnerabilities, exploits and potential threats than the week of the Black Hat USA security conference, which commences in Las Vegas at Caesar's Palace Hotel and Casino.
People from IT security, hardware, software and online services highly anticipate event, as researchers across the nation brace up to launch new security tools, research and advisories about nearly every category of enterprise technology.
The event has gained prominence after it was reported that there will also be another event BSides, located down the strip from Black Hat during the same period. BSides, an unaffiliated event, is set to take up issues that include PHP, VxWorks and Twitter security vulnerabilities. The event was born out of speaker rejections from the Black Hat USA 2009 event.
But Bsides will not be the only place where subjects that weren’t take up last year would brought the fore. Among the big sessions at this year's Black Hat USA event will an issue, which was raised last year after security researcher Barnaby Jack's research how ATM machines are at risk of falling prey to an attack that could "jackpot" them! Jack's 2009 presentation on the same subject was prohibited from the event owing to escalating pressure from ATM vendors on his then-employer, Juniper Networks. This time around, however, Jack is working for security research firm IOactive and it’s rumored that the presentation would be held as per the schedule.
This year, Black Hat is also likely to take up Cisco's security issues. "The presenters for this session did contact the Cisco Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT) ahead of the Black Hat conference," Cisco said in an email to InternetNews.com. "We maintain a very open relationship with the security community and view this as vital to helping protect our customers’ networks."
