Microsoft is set to update its "decision engine," Bing, with in-depth information on car models, sports comparisons, and redesign. In its own words, it is updating Bing with “specific data and answers to questions.”
In fact, it is part of Bing's strategy to not only deliver text link results for search, but also deep information.
Giving latest Microsoft news, talking about the changes, Jeff Henshaw, Microsoft's user experience team manager, said "We have a vision for Bing to serve as a vital assistant to your online decision-making. In these latest designs, you'll see a lighter, cleaner presentation of results that highlight key actions that will efficiently guide you toward your goal. Every day, Bing gets more intelligent about tasks that are important to people like you and me, so we continue to streamline and polish the Bing experience in ways that let you tap into that intelligence."
With it, Microsoft plans to change the user interface as well, meaning that there will be a shift of search result categories from the left panel to the tabs on the top. Talking to PCMag.com, Microsoft's Stefan Weitz explained that the category bars were not being used much, instead people were using their search history as well as suggestions, which will stay in the left panel. Weitz added: "It offers more explicit context in a mini-aggregated experience. Up to now, web search has been like shouting out a word in a crowded bar and hearing what people there respond with."
Bing updates have something special to offer for sports fans. It will help them evaluate team and player stats, which is very much available in Google.
For those interested in knowing more about places and their location, Bing has come up with a Foursquare map application to help Bing Maps users to find check-ins on the location service, besides badges and mayors. These will be new features, aprt from the "What's Nearby," Photosynth 3D photo montages, and live traffic video.
Another feature that Bing offers its customers is the Foursquare integration that will localize search results. For all mobile customers, Microsoft will release Autosuggest improvements and even answers to stock quotes.
Only five percent of the users will be able to access the new user interface and sports comparison for the time being. It will be available to everyone in the next few weeks.
