Battle hots up between Intel and ARM for mobile processor market
Intel is one of the world’s most renowned developers of chips that are used to run servers, desktops, laptops, notebooks etc.
They are however yet to make an entry to the smartphone market. However with the changing landscape of the mobile market the company is looking to enter this segment.
On the other hand AMD continues to be a challenge in its core market. The majority market stake is still being held by Intel.
Another player in the fray is ARM which has a stronger hold in the smartphone and tablet pc market. For example ARM processor is used in Apple 3G iPhone. The Apple iPad also has SRM Cortexa at its heart and soul. Most of the other smartphones are also run on ARM.
Intel had earlier this year introduced Moorestown processor architecture. This comprises of an Intel atom processor core with graphics processing, video and memory controller.
Now Intel has launched a Moorestown processor that is built on Atom z6 series. The company claims that the processor has 10 days of backup power along with richer graphics support.
It would be interesting to see the strategy adopted by Intel to penetrate into the mobile phone market.
