Barbara Walters To Undergo Heart Surgery
Television star Barbara Walters will finally take a break after years of television life. However, this is forced break for her as she is scheduled to undergo a heart surgery to replace a faulty heart valve.
She made the announcement on “The View” today that she will undergo the surgery later this week.
"You know how I always say to you how healthy I am. ... I've never missed a day's work," she began. "Later this week, I'm going to have surgery to replace one faulty heart valve. Lots of people have done this and I have known about this condition for a while now." She added that the decision to get the surgery done during this time was jointly taken by her and her doctors keeping in mind that she would be able to recover during the summer. While she has not reported any complication an echocardiogram revealed that her heart valve was getting smaller and tighter.
David Westin, News President of ABC News said, "There's no denying that this is serious surgery. But it's also a type of surgery that has been done often and successfully. And, as those of us who work with Barbara know, she's in excellent condition. So, we have every reason to expect a great result and a speedy recovery."
80 year old Walters was the creator of “The View” in 1997 and has been on ABC daytime talk show right from the beginning. She is also the cohost for ABC News’ “20/20”
