Bangkok swamped with protest rallies as thousands take part
Calling for new elections, thousands of protesters participated in a mass rally in Bangkok today.
Protesters were on motorcycles and trucks as the anti-government campaign reached a new stage altogether. The movement which is called as the "red-shirt" movement has numerous supporters of former PM Thaksin Shinawatra, and they demand fresh elections in Thailand.
Meanwhile, incumbent Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has refused to step down although he knows that things are not that good in his country.
However, he will be pleased since the numbers of protesters have gone down since last week.
But, still there were thousands who were in their red attire, drove motorbikes, cars and trucks as they tried to find extra support.
Mostly the protestors are from areas of Thailand where Mr Thaksin is still very popular. Though, Prime Minister Abhisit has decided to talk to the opposite leaders, however, he has a demand and that the protests must be called off.
The anti-government campaign is ready to talk but if they find that something untowardly is happening then the red-shirt leaders say that they will increase the level of their protests.
A week earlier, the protesters collected blood and smeared it outside some of the major government buildings and the prime minister's private residence.
Mr Thaksin, is right now living abroad in Dubai serving a two-year jail sentence. The protestors call themselves fighters and they fight against the elite class and to restore democracy in the country.
The protestors think that Mr Abhisit powered his way into the electoral process as the pro-Thaksin government was forced to step down when Mr Thaksin was removed as prime minister in a blood-less military coup in 2006.
