Arizona Gov Not Very Happy After Meeting Obama
Arizona Governor Jan Brewer seemed disappointed after meeting with President Obama yesterday, as she told media that the president would send an official to discuss her demands in a few weeks.
She also said that the president did not disclose information about the deployment of 1,200 National Guard troops. Brewer further said that she would back efforts that help conduct “much better dialogue between the federal government and the state of Arizona" on issues related to border security and immigration reform. "I hope that's not wishful thinking but positive thinking," she said.
Earlier, Brewer called on President Obama to discuss the issues related to state’s new legislation, which envisages strict action against illegal immigrants. The meeting comes in the backdrop of Justice Department officials’ disclosure that they were planning to block the passage of the legislation, which criminalizes illegal stay in the state. Initially, Obama citing hectic schedule had declined to meet the governor. But after observing rising criticism, Obama agreed to meet Brewer.
Brewer said that she would stick to her position on the issues related to illegal immigration. "I feel very confident about what we've done in the past is the right thing to do," she said. "We're protecting America. We need to secure our border."
