Angels Suffer 8-3 Defeat Against Mariners , Scott Kazmir Disappoints
Angels looked slightly off color yesterday as they suffered a 8-3 defeat against Seattle. Scott Kazmir failed to impress once again as he gave six runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings.
The Angels have performed well in this season so far but it hasn't been a West Coast swing. It seems that the team has perfected the art of taking one-step-forward, two-steps-back.
Angles were looking in good touch after defeating Toronto on Tuesday but the winning streak was snapped yesterday as they lost 8-3. Mariners left-hander Cliff Lee was the star of the match as he allowed two earned runs and four hits and struck out 10 in eight innings.
On the other hand, Angels erratic left-hander Scott Kazmir once again showed his unpredictable nature by following two solid starts with a 5 1/3-inning appearance. The Angels star gave up six runs (five earned) and eight hits in an effort, which is not praiseworthy by any standard.
"They weren't biting on my offspeed pitches because they were locked in to my fastball. I would have kept them honest more if I threw more sliders and changeups,” said Kazmir, who fell to 3-5 with a 6.34 earned-run average.
He added, "Once I have it in their heads that I can throw those pitches for strikes, it changes the whole game. You can tell as soon as I throw them that they're not even offering, so they can sit on one pitch."
