On Thursday, Amazon has launched Kindle for Mac software, which will enable OS users to acquire e-books in Kindle format. The company will "soon" provide Kindle software for Apple iPad device, which is seen as a likely challenger to Kindle hardware.
In a press release, Amazon said that the free application could be downloaded at www.amazon.com/kindleformac. It has said that it will “soon” launch Kindle software for Apple’s iPas. It is to be noted that versions of its Kindle software were already available for Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch, apart from Windows PCs and BlackBerry handsets.
The Whispersync technology has been used in Kindle for Mac software to save and synchronize bookmarks, besides the last page read. The beta version has no feature to provide full text search. It does not possess the ability to form and edit notes and highlights. All these features are inherent in Kindle, Kindle DX, and Kindle for iPhone.
According to Amazon, those features will be part of the Kindle for Mac application "in the near future."
