CFDA Awards 2010: Late Alexander McQueen was paid a special tribute and Marc Jacobs was presented Womenswear Designer of the Year award at Council of Fashion Designers of America awards at Lincoln Center Monday night. Jason Wu picked up the Swarovski Womenswear award, which honors emerging talent.
British designer McQueen was 40 when he committed suicide last September. Sarah Jessica Parker called him "talented well beyond his years." The ceremony included a glimpse of his final collection as a tribute.
Jason Wu, 28, picked up the Swarovski Womenswear award, which honors emerging talent. Wu's best known for pulling off fashion's greatest feat - dressing Michelle Obama for the Inaugural Ball - at just 26.
The ceremony was not only about awards. For every Brooke Shields and Gwyneth Paltrow, there was Alexa Chung, who sparkled in a demure Marc Jacobs dress, and sometimes "Gossip Girl" star Michelle Trachtenberg, in Rebecca Taylor. As 26-year-old nominee Alexander Wang put it, "I love fashion because you can't define it."
