Bad news for N.H.L. fans, as Alex Ovechkin has been suspended for the next two games for misconduct in Sunday’s game as he hit Chicago Blackhawks’ Brian Campbell from behind, injuring the latter.
Washington Capitals have suffered a major setback as star performer Alex Ovechkin has been suspended for the next two games. Following his hitting Brian Campbell from behind, the latter could walk out of the field with the help of his trainer.
However, Ovechkin, who was involved in such an incident earlier as well, does not plead guilty, saying, “There’s nothing I can do right now. He just fell and this happens.”
Even Capitals General Manager George McPhee has taken Ovechkin’s side, saying, “We have no problem with the way Alex tried to finish his check. Unfortunately, an injury resulted.”
On the other hand, as a result of the injury, Campbell would miss the three-game series beginning Wednesday night, which is a big loss for Chicago, as he is a key defenseman for the side.
For a similar incident, when Ovechkin hit Carolina defenseman Tim Gleason, he was suspended for two games. Therefore, under the collective bargaining agreement, he is considered a repeat offender.
Capitals Coach Bruce Boudreau said, “If this was Sidney Crosby doing this, everybody outside of Pittsburgh would have cried foul: suspend him for the year. I don’t think it does the game any good to have Alex suspended.”
