Alex Chilton of Box Tops fame dies at 59
Rocker Alex Chilton, 59 has died on Wednesday. The rock guitarist became famous for the work he did with bands The Box Tops and Big Star.
Chilton's business associate John Fry who also happens to be his long time friend, informed that Chilton died in an emergency room in New Orleans, Louisiana. Chilton was apparently having heart problems.
There is also news that Chilton and the band Big Star were to perform at the South by Southwest music festival in Texas this weekend.
Alex Chilton began his music career at a very young age in the 1960s, beginning as the vocalist for the Band the Box Tops. Some famous songs of the group are "'The Letter", "Neon Rainbow" and "Cry Like a Baby."
The band dissolved in 1970 and Chilton formed a new band Big Star.
The band survived for a short time till 1974, but the music they made now has a cult status.
The band Big Star got together again in 1990s. It would have been a treat to see them perform once again at the SXSW music festival.
